Imagine it's a snowy Christmas Eve back in Dickensian London and our unlovable curmudgeon is visited by a motley assortment of ghosts. These unwanted apparitions waft an unwilling Scrooge through his past, present and future. They hope to change his mean old ways before fate sends him to an early grave and fitting comeuppance in an uncomfortable after life – just ask Joseph Marley. Scrooge has spent years profiting from money lending and elevated being tight into an art form, surely his nocturnal encounters will show him the error of his ways?… The show is less a traditional adaptation, and more contemporary in writing style to previous shows on a similar theme. As some might say, ‘What the Dickens!?' | info

MMD's The Works: Fairystories

by MMD Associate Paul Graham Brown
Grand Salon, Theatre Royal Drury Lane Drury Lane London UK
30 June 2009 - 30 June 2009

Supported by the Noel Coward Foundation. FAIRYSTORIES is based on the true story of the Cottingley Fairies which held the world in its thrall in the 1920s. This gentle and graceful musical tells an optimistic tale about families, truth, lies, grieving and healing.

Two young children, Henry and Polly forge photographs of fairies dancing by a stream. These pictures, of paper cut outs cleverly mounted on hat pins, get authenticated as real by Spiritualist author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A chain of events is set into action that has devastating consequences for the lives of Henry and those around him, not in the least for his father, Edward, who is desperate to make contact with his late wife.

Are these fairies messengers from beyond? And what will happen when the children get found out?

FAIRYSTORIES is a melodic musical full of heart: a delightful show for the whole family. | info
