I read drama at Manchester University, then acted, simultaneously fiction reading for Penguin Books, and gradually turned to writing. I wrote the narration for a nine part short documentary series Russia 1800 for PBS (WGBH, Boston), and collaborated on the narration from Tieck's novella for Brahm's Die Schone Magelone song cycle which Simon Callow went on to perform at the Oxford Lieder Festival. As a dramatist I wrote for television Turgenev's Fathers and Sons (BBC), and for radio Fathers and Sons and Edna O'Brien's Johnny I Hardly Knew You (BBC). I've also written the book and lyrics of three musicals: Kiss and Pray, music Billy McGee, The Kiosk, music Andrew Peggie, which was showcased at Her Majestys supported by Arts Council England, now reworked as Mariyam, and Chasing The Romantics... Ewen Caden Moore collaborating on that book. As a published lyricist I've worked with various jazz and rock artists in the UK and Europe including Mort Shuman, Gianna Nannini, Liane Carroll and Rod Argent. I wrote the title song for the film Magic Moments (ITV/Showtime, USA), several tracks on That's Life (Jazz Art), three concerts of children's songs at London's Purcell Room performed by Mick Ford and Jim Norton, lyrics for new songs and scats for the musical Save The Last Dance For Me, book Ray Connolly, music Mort Shuman, and the lyrics for the cabaret Those Good Old Days (two seasons at the Merlin International Theatre, Budapest).
