John Cohen is the Senior Partner of Clintons, the leading firm of entertainment lawyers. He has been at the firm for more than 40 years.
Initially, he specialised in music law, representing a whole range of rock stars, including Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, The Who, The Cure, Boy George, Chrissie Hynde, Michael Jackson, Paul Weller, Dave Clark and Roxy Music, some of whom he still looks after personally.
In the early 1990s, having fallen out of love with the music of the time, he decided to follow his first love and move his practice into the area of theatre. Since then, he has built a practice representing many of the leading British creators of musical theatre, including Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Don Black, George Stiles, Anthony Drewe and the late Lionel Bart, as well as choreographers, directors, designers and producers. He also works with a number of agents, assisting them with their clients.
He also represents a number of television personalities in the news and current affairs areas and handles corporate matters in the entertainment business generally.
He was educated at Malvern College and University College London, is married with two sons and two grandsons.
He is a Trustee of The Arts Foundation, Mercury Musical Developments and The Lionel Bart Foundation.
